Board Certified Mohs Surgeon
Dr. Valerie Fisher Shiu is double board certified in Dermatology and Micrographic Dermatologic Surgery (Mohs surgery). She is a member of The American College of Mohs Surgery and The American Academy of Dermatology.
Dr. Shiu graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Nutritional Sciences from the University of Texas at Austin. She attended medical school at the University of Texas Health at San Antonio and graduated at the top of her class, inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society and the Gold Humanism Honor Society. She completed her dermatology residency at the University of Texas Health San Antonio where she was chief resident her final year. She completed her Mohs Micrographic Surgery and Dermatologic Oncology fellowship training at the world renowned Cleveland Clinic in Ohio.
She has served as the chief of dermatologic surgery at the Audie Murphy VA in San Antonio and is the current associate program director for the dermatology residency program at UT Health San Antonio. She is also the current director of Mohs micrographic surgery and procedural dermatology at the Mays Cancer Center, UT Health San Antonio MD Anderson Cancer Center. At the Mays Cancer Center she is the chair of the Advanced Skin Cancer and Melanoma Tumor Board. She enjoys treating advanced, rare skin cancers and reconstructive surgery. She understands medicine is not “one size fits all” and pays special attention to the specific needs of each individual patient while providing compassionate care.
Dr. Shiu is married to her high school sweetheart Daniel Shiu. They are the proud parents of 2 little boys, Jackson and Alex.
